About the Designer and her self titled collection:
Sunita Mukhi’s name is indisputably interwoven with three key qualities: elegance, opulence and sophistication. Her bespoke, crystal minaudieres and hand embellished clutches are recognised internationally for their meticulous attention to detail and flawless craftsmanship.
A vibrant ambassador of the brand’s ethos, Sunita's trademarked 'eye' does not just denote the core identity but also harnesses Sunita’s upbringing in Malta, where she became transfixed by the powerful myths about the protective and beneficent Eye of Osiris. The eye is often seen painted on the prows of fishing boats in Malta to this day; one distinct way of converging past and present. Sunita Mukhi’s bags are an equally potent mode of maintaining that rich and beneficial tradition. By transporting the symbol she grew up with in Malta, she confirms that this strength and philosophy are as robust as when she set sail for other shores.
How it All Started:
Lavish critical acclaim and praise, from leading fashion icon, Anna Dello Russo, the editor of Vogue Japan, followed hot on the heels of the first eye-shaped clutch, when it was launched at Milan Fashion Week in February 2013, making Sunita’s concept a trend to admire and fully embrace. It attracted worldwide attention via ADR’s social media and currently features in multiple global publications. This has paved the way for Sunita to become renowned as a pioneering bag designer as far afield as America and Europe as well as the UK, and creating innumerable opportunities to be sold on the shelves of the world's most prestigious boutiques, be they Yvette in Knightsbridge, Mayfair to Swans in San Tropez; Sauce in Dubai or even being showcased at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane London.
Yesterday, Today and Tommorrow:
Sunita's hand-encrusted crystal clutches are true treasures, auctioned annually at ‘The Pink Ribbon Ball’ and ‘The Prince’s Trust Handbags and Gladrags’ event. 2013 saw her bespoke design for the Commonwealth Charity Fashion show opening London Fashion Week at The Mayfair Hotel, London.
Sunita has launched a capsule collection with Urban Outfitters, is stocked on Asos with another of her collections and is soon to launch her premium collections with Fenwick, London.
Sunita Mukhi has recently been honoured by Malta’s First Lady, Michelle Muscat, in being commissioned to design a bespoke, midnight minaudiere as a gift for the Duchess of Cambridge on the occasion of Malta’s 50th Independence in September 2014. Sunita was approached because of being Malta’s most revered and highly sought after handbag designer.
Despite not having any formal design training, her attentive and committed interest in fashion and design (which stems, in part, from growing up surrounded by a highly creative mother and a father with a successful fashion business) has fused with her instinctive creative flair and the tenacity to experiment in order to produce trail-blazing bags. Sunita regards her work as embracing the philosophy of Harvey Mackay:
‘Find something you love to do and you will never work a day in your life’ .
